Domain names can only be leased to an individual or a company for a minimum of 1 year or a maximum of 10 years.
Domain names are subject to expiration and to determine when your domain name expires, you need to follow these steps;
- The first step is to start a WHOIS Lookup. You can do this on several websites (www.encirca.com/whois) or https://lookup.icann.org/en.
- Input the domain name that you want to check. For instance, you can look up “example.com”.
- To check the expiration date, scroll down to the end of the record. You will see some information about the date of creation and the expiration date of the domain name.
If the domain name is not renewed before the expiration date or after a grace period, it might be available for others on a first-come-first-served basis.
If your domain is close to expiration, go to www.encirca.com/renew/.
